Winners, including best-bet selections, have been hard to find at Gloucester Park over the last couple of weeks.
But members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have done the form for Friday night’s meeting and have come up with some selections they think can line the pockets of punters.
Radio Great Southern’s form analyst Warren Wishart believes punters should keep their powder dry until the last on the program – or at least increase their winnings – by supporting Talks Up A Storm.
“I’m saving the best for the last race on the card this week in Talks Up A Storm,” Wishart said. “He’s a very talented two-year-old, who beat a good field in the Sales Classic before a break. Resumed in good fashion from a wide draw finishing third behind Overjoyed in a strong race. Well drawn and he should lead and win.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning is keen on Miracle Moose in race eight.
“New Zealand import Miracle Moose, with four wins and four seconds from his past eight starts, is in the best form he has shown since beginning to race in WA early this year,” Manning said. “He won at Pinjarra and Bunbury ahead of a Gloucester Park victory last Friday night. Trainer Nathan Turvey looks set for much more success with the four-year-old.”
Veteran trotting journalist Ken Casellas is confident punters can get the night off on the right note with a hit of caffeine.
“There is no substitute for class – and Double Expresso represents the class in race one on Friday night,” Casellas said. “Narrowly beaten into second place at each of her past three starts, Double Expresso has the class to overcome the outside barrier on the front line and record her 13TH victory from 20 starts. The Ross Olivieri-trained filly is big, strong and speedy and can certainly turn the tables on Blockjorg, who has beaten her at her past two outings.”
The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft is a forgiving soul and believes punters should follow his lead.
“Ultimate Offer’s failure at $1.40 last week was a tough watch for those that followed me in, but I’m taking confidence from Dennis Roche throwing his up-and-coming pacer in again this week,” Havercroft said. “Drawn better this time in barrier two, I am prepared to forgive his last outing and predict him to return to his previously irresistible form.”
TABradio’s Matt Young believes there’s still life in the old legs of Our Jimmy Johnstone, the rising 12-year-old pacer.
“Our Jimmy Johnstone is perfectly drawn to lead and control the free-for-all event,” Young said. “He will appreciate the distance and looks the best of the night.”
However, longshot guru Pat Harding doesn’t agree with Young.
“Tipping winners continues to be tough at GP, but hopefully we can turn the tide this week,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race six with the Greg and Skye Bond-trained No. 4 Ocean Ridge. I have tipped Ocean Ridge against his stablemate Taroona Bromac because Ryan Warwick has chosen to drive him and he is certainly in a purple patch of form.”
TABradio’s form expert Hayden King has made My Prayer his best for the night.
“My Prayer is drawn to be behind the leader and that looks the absolute perfect spot,” King said. “Dancing With Mach usually overraces and My Prayer should get a heavenly run behind the speed and zip over the top.”
But Guild president Wayne Currall disagrees with King’s assessment of the race.
“Champion reinsman Chris Lewis should be able to get an easy lead with polemarker Dancing With Mach,” Currall said. “From there he should be able to dictate the tempo of the race and only let her off the leash turning for home. She should then be able to outsprint her opposition to the line.”
VALUE BETS
WARREN: Advance Your Dream was a sneaky, good run last Friday in a fast-run race relative to the night. Back to fillies grade with most of the main players drawing out. Can see her getting a good run and will be finishing hard. The indicative price of $26 looks great value.
ERNIE: Trainer Gary Hall is persevering with Tuas Delight though a Bunbury win has been the only victory in his past 13 starts. The veteran impressed when he ran fourth after facing the breeze last Friday night. He has gate one this week.
KEN: For value, I suggest Pamy June, who will start from the backline in the Group 3 Harry Capararo Westbred Mares feature event. She has hardly put a foot wrong since resuming after a 12-month absence, with two wins and two seconds from four appearances. She is sure to be steaming home on Friday night.
RYAN: Following out my best bet after the scratching of Art Tutor, Affluent Bell doesn’t know how to run a bad race and can bob up into the placings at a rated price of $31.
MATT: Diamond Dove is getting back to a suitable grade against the mares. She has a powerful turn of foot and could be very dangerous late.
PAT: My value bet come up in race 10 with No. 3 Black Jack Baby. She is resuming from a spell but had an excellent record before that. Add a very small field and Chris Voak aboard and it gives her an excellent opportunity to record a win.
HAYDEN: Blue Chip Adda is a fairly large price considering how devastating she can be off a soft run. If the pace is on and the gaps come her way, look out.
WAYNE: Comeback pacer Twoandahalf Tigers is set to get the run of the race behind likely leader Marquisard in race four. He looks a great each-way chance from the draw.
