AS HAS become common practice during present conditions, plans with talented youngster Dancing Finn have changed in recent weeks.
Setting Dancing Finn for the Southern Cross series, trainer Lance Holberton has to design an alternative program for the two-year-old.
Originally scheduled for mid-May, the Southern Cross has been postponed to a date to be determined due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
“I was aiming her at the Southern Cross, but that’s off the cards for the time being,” Holberton said.
“Hopefully she will get her chance at it later in the season.
“For now I will just have to find what I can and go from there…a few more races like last night would come in handy.”
Competing at Globe Derby last night, Dancing Finn upstaged the ‘boys’ in the Sapling Stake.
Driven by leading reinsman Ryan Hryhorec, Dancing Finn began well from barrier two but was unable to cross Ultimate Trouble which led from the pole.
Despite racing in the ‘death seat’, the filly bullocked her way to the front at the top of the home straight to score by two-and-a-half metres from Northern Terror, with Fizzy Cola a head away third.
Rating a modest 2:05.5 over 1800 metres, Dancing Finn took her record to two wins and a third from four starts for earnings of $15,664.
By A Rocknroll Dance, Dancing Finn is from top producer Anna Finn, which boasts a perfect record from four starters.
In fact, another of the matron’s progeny – Mo Chara – scored in Bathurst today.
“The mare has done a top job and this filly has the potential to be her best,” Holberton said. “She’s got a long way to go for that to happen, but everything she has done suggests she is heading in the right direction.”
