Due to the on-going health implications of COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, Harness Racing SA has determined that the most prudent path forward to protect the health and well-being of all involved in our sport is to conduct upcoming race meetings with only essential persons in attendance.
Accordingly, effective immediately and until further notice, all harness racing meetings in South Australia will not be open to the public (including owners).
Attendance will only be provided to essential personnel, which on raceday is restricted to the following:
- Trainers, Drivers and Stablehands with a runner(s) at the race meeting

- Course Veterinarian
- Starters and Starters Assistants
- Clerks of the Course
- Judges
- Horse checking personnel.
- Security Staff
- Medical personnel.
- Farriers and other essential service providers approved by Harness Racing SA.
- Broadcast services, including Race Caller
- Restricted Racing Media as approved by Harness Racing SA
- Restricted operational Race Club staff.
No access to on-course wagering facilities will be available, and essential personnel will be required to leave the racecourse after their horses have run.
Access will not be permitted to any essential personnel that:
- Is suffering from coronavirus symptoms or is otherwise unwell;
- Has been to a country considered at higher risk of COVID-19 in the past 14 days, currently mainland China, Iran, Italy and South Korea;
- Is subject to self-isolation requirements imposed by the Government; or

With respect to the licensed premises at Globe Derby Park; this facility will continue to operate, however those patronising the venue will be required to remain within the confines of the grandstand building and not occupy any open part of the grandstand or surrounds.
With respect to catering for those engaged in the facilitation of the race meeting; SA BOTRA has generously undertaken to provide a food and refreshment stall at Globe Derby Park, within the boundaries of the stables area.
Information for the other venues being provided when arrangements are finalised.
Finally, COVID-19 is very much a moving target and HRSA will continue to monitor the situation on a day-to-day basis, while working with state and local authorities. Regular updates will be provided as, and when, new information becomes available.
