There is no doubt they really do breed them tough in Queensland. Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio says the drought is the worst he has ever seen. However harness racing enthusiasts that make the effort to come and support the wonderful APG consignors on January 26th sale at Albion Park, Brisbane, will be pleasantly surprised.
John Coffey that viewed the yearlings in the north back in November, was blown away by the way the QLD breeders have been able to professionally care for their yearlings at such a challenging time.
Burwood Stud which is situated at Pittsworth on the Darling Downs (& 48 kilometres from Toowoomba or a 90 minute drive from Brisbane), has also been smashed by the harshest conditions a drought can throw at a breeder. So the team at Burwood have sourced road train after road train of the best folder available from South Australia to make certain their yearlings have been given the very best nutrition available. Burwood Stud yearlings are raised right to race right, and the Stud proudly stands by their numerous achievements on the racetrack. Christine advised, “It has always been our belief to let our horses do the talking for us, and we are extremely proud of this draft after the season we have had”.
Local and interstate investors who are looking at adding to their racing stocks certainly have plenty of reasons to support the champions of our sport like the Denning family.
Albion Park’s $100,000 Gr.1 Brisbane Sales Race is exclusively restricted to just 38 pacing yearlings that we have catalogued for this year’s sale.
Non Sale entries are ineligible to contest the Brisbane Sales Race; as are horses purchased at any of APG’s Melbourne, Sydney or Perth Sales, regardless of whether those purchases are made by Queensland owners and/or trained in Queensland.
That means that one of the 38 horses passing through the Brisbane Sales ring on 26 January is guaranteed to take home the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize purse when the Brisbane Sales Race is conducted in August 2021.
While Christine was reluctant to single out highlights from their yearlings (given they have come through as a very even group), once pushed, she did mention the following:
Lot 2 a Racing Hill Colt out of the 10 time winning Jereme’s Jet mare, Hereiam. This is the first foal of the U308 mare that went 1:56.1 that’s also the half–sister of the Gr.2 winner, Clintal Do. With career earnings of $219,021 to date, this young colt should attract some serious interest.
