APG (as it’s known) is the industry leader when it comes to selling and racing Standardbred horses. As one highly successful buyer suggests, “The APG sales are the launching pad for our harness racing stars of tomorrow”.
Over the years, the quality of the bloodstock passing through the APG sales ring is second to none. This is evidenced by the fact that year after year, the APG sales continue to produce more Australian Group One winners than any other Standardbred sales company.
It’s with great pride that APG can announce an early Christmas bonus to many given the 2020 sales list is now available online and that the majority of catalogues will be delivered before December 25 or available at many tracks across Australia.
It’s true that the strength of the mare families represented year after year in the APG’s sales go a long way to explaining the wonderful prosperity so many graduates achieve. There will be a lot more on this topic before the sales kick off.
If we look for now at the “Stallion Power” represented in the 2020 APG sales, it’s wonderful news that the team at APG can inform all that more than 330 lots in the 2020 catalogue are by (what many astute buyers would class as) the top sire prospects going forward in our sport. This is backed up by what turned out to be the 10 super sires from the Lexington 2019 sales (& available here).
APG’s general manager, David Boydell was on hand to see so many of these leading sires progeny get sold at Lexington 2019. The Lexington sales company believes it turned out to be its “Best Sale Ever”. David went on to say “watching and meeting with representatives of the different sales companies, breeders, preparers, buyers and stallion managers in NA, made me realise just how exciting and encouraging the sport of harness racing looks going forward. Art Major has 40 available lots APG 2020. Has been one of the sires, that’s been leading the way for sales averages in this country for years.
Betting Line has 52 available lots APG 2020. Averaged $59,148 at Lexington 2019.
Bettors Delight has 37 available lots APG 2020. Like Art Major, he has dominated the sales ring for years.
Captaintreacherous has 37 available lots APG 2020. Averaged $73,776 at Lexington 2019.
Father Patrick has 5 available lots APG 2020. Averaged$111,667 at Lexington 2019.
Muscle Hill has 2 available lots APG 2020. Averaged $130,073 at Lexington 2019.
Somebeachsomewhere has 27 available lots APG 2020. Averaged $112,763 at Lexington 2019.
Sweet Lou has 19 available lots APG 2020. Averaged $40,560 at Lexington 2019.
The 2020 sales will most likely be the last time we will ever see good numbers by some real ‘gun’ sires of the sport. Yearlings by Courage Under Fire (who has got 2 foals born in the 19/20 season ), Mach Three, Rocknroll Hanover (with 1 foal born in the 19/20 season), Somebeachsomewhere (with 5 foals born in 19/20 and very restricted joining’s this season), Western Ideal and Western Terror, all listed for sale in Australia. All 6 sire’s have made a wonderful contribution to the sport and this last real batch of yearlings should get an considerable following by many insightful buyers.
