Harness Racing SA has announced a funding package aimed at improving the number of standardbred foals bred in the state.

While foal crops in recent years have declined, this season has seen increased activity in breeding numbers, and to this end the HRSA Board have recognised the input of those active in promoting and supporting the states breeding program.

To recognise, not only the generosity of those standing their stallion at no service fee this season, but also those owners committed to patronising commercial stallions in the state, the HRSA Board has approved grants aimed at off-setting some of the costs incurred when breeding a foal.

The Board has determined that a subsidy of $300.00 be made available, for this stud season, to both the owners of stallions which stand at no stud fee in SA, and to the owners, or lessees of mares, which are domiciled in SA and which are bred to a SA based commercial stallion.

For avoidance of doubt, the subsidy applies to only those mares served in SA.

In announcing these initiatives HRSA Board Chairman Gary Crocker stated `the Board is committed to growing the number of horses bred within our state boundaries, and we look forward, with the assistance of breeders in SA, to ensuring that we have a vibrant and successful breeding operation’
