A TRIP across the border is tentatively on the cards for Lochinvar Hugo.
Set to compete at Globe Derby on Saturday night, Lochinvar Hugo is on target to head to Victoria for next week’s Winter Championship heats at Tabcorp Park Melton.
“I’m giving some thought to the series in Victoria, but he will have to do a pretty good job at Globe Derby,” trainer Dean Girardi said.
“It will all come down to how well he races on Saturday night, but I am pretty confident given his work.”
Winner at his first run back from a spell three weeks ago, Lochinvar Hugo was then unplaced in last weekend’s Globe Derby 50th Birthday Cup.
With the son of Sportswriter enduring a tough run, Girardi is taking responsibility for the performance.
“I made a move with him last week thinking I could get him into a good position, but it didn’t work out that way,” Girardi said. “So his run wasn’t too bad.
“He has pulled up from it fine and will be ready to go again.”
This time around Lochinvar Hugo has drawn to settle forward from barrier four, with his main danger, Indiana Dreaming, to come from five.
“He came from barrier four when he won first-up for three months, so hopefully he can do that again,” Girardi said.
“Indiana Dreaming is the one to beat. I’d say Thomas Burns will also be in the mix from two.”
Girardi also has Morengo Magic in the following event on the card, with the colt in a strong position to register his first win of the term from the pole.
The three-year-old has had three starts this season for a pair of placings.
“He’s working really well and gets his chance from the draw,” Girardi said.
