Australian Pacing Gold is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Dean Baring to take up the new role of Marketing & Operations Manager within Australian Pacing Gold (APG) organisation.
Dean has worked tirelessly in the harness racing industry for years and has worked alongside APG on joint ventures since 2015.
In announcing Dean’s appointment, APG’s General Manager, David Boydell, enthused “For a number of years I’ve seen first-hand the enthusiasm, dedication and ideas that Dean has brought to the industry. APG has previously worked closely with Dean on a number of important projects, including our highly successful APG TV and our online yearling guides and I am confident that having Dean as a full-time member of the APG team will provide further scope for him to contribute and grow the APG brand.”
Dean is a brutally honest, private person and is the first to admit not all of his forward thinking and willingness to try new ideas have been smash hits.
As Dean explains, “I like to think outside the box, and I’d like to think that I’ve managed to drive a number of initiatives that have had a genuinely positive impact on the industry and of which I am extremely proud. However, it is equally fair to say that some of my attempts to service the industry have not gone according to plan, but these experiences and real life lessons have helped me to grow and drive me to keep improving every day.”
Although a little hesitant to single out his proudest achievement so far, Dean did say when pushed, “The creation and success of APG TV has been extremely rewarding. To see the joy and excitement of vendors and buyers at the sales, along the winners of the richest 2YO races in southern hemisphere is an honour.
“Moments like capturing Wayne and Lyn Graham when Park Life won the 2yo Fillies final at Menangle in April of 2016 or the clip with Ian Caruana after Nostra Beach’s victory and who could forget the interview with Joanne Anderson after Emilio and Maria Rosati purchased her colt for $130,000 this year in Sydney. I still tear up thinking about how wonderful that result was for Joanne and her partners.”
In addition to his enthusiasm, marketing and business knowledge, Dean also brings an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of horse pedigrees, as well as a firm understanding of the highs and lows of being a breeder, having experienced the joys of breeding a Group One winner, and the sorrows of losing foals to paddock injuries.
As an owner, Dean has experienced the thrills of victory and the disappointments of defeat, whilst his efforts to drive and grow Harnessbred to become the leading independent harness racing site in the country have provided him with a real insight into the mindset of the “average battler” in the industry, as well as teaching him some valuable lessons on the importance of knowing where to set the boundaries.
In his new role with APG, Dean is keen to be focusing on developing and implementing APG’s marketing and APG TV strategy with a view to:
- maximizing buyer interest in the APG Sales;
- increasing public awareness regarding the quality of APG yearlings and the achievements of APG Sales Graduates;
- introducing new buyers to the APG Sales: and
- increasing the media profile of the APG Race Series and ensuring it receives the media attention that it deserves
On the operational side of the business, Dean will be looking to work with the Board and the APG team to implement strategies aimed at:
- improving the sales day experience for people attending the APG Sales;
- maximizing the experience for connections at APG’s Race Series Finals;
- recognizing the owners, trainers and breeders of APG Sales graduates and ensuring that they feel valued and connected to APG; and
- improving the quality and functionality of APG’s Online Guides
Put simply we can’t be happier to have Dean on board as a full time staff member!
