SATURDAY night’s BOTRA Final is the next target for handy youngster Livinontheedge.
Thrilled with the three-year-old’ s win in Victor Harbor yesterday, trainer Anthony Robinson will head to Port Pirie for the feature.
Robinson had nominated Livinontheedge for the heats, which were scrapped due to a lack of nominations.
“We will go to Port Pirie now where he is straight in the BOTRA Final,” Robinson said. “They were going to run preludes but didn’t get enough nominations so now each horse which accepted is in the Final.”
Livinontheedge will be a regular around Port Pirie in coming weeks, with Robinson also planning to tackle the Southern Cross with the son of Dawn Ofa New Day.
“After the BOTRA he will go in the Southern Cross and can hopefully have a bit of luck in that,” Robinson said.
“He only made the Consolation last season but has gotten stronger this time around and can hopefully make his way into the Final.
“After that I’ll just try to get his three-year-old win which will include a trip to Mildura to try and get his bonus.”
With Robinson holding the reins during his latest victory, Livinontheedge began quickly from the pole but was unable to hold out Shardonant which led from barrier three.
After enjoying the run of the race Livinontheedge gained an opening along the home straight before sprinting to a two-and-a-half metre win from Cee Cee In America, with Shardonant a metre-and-a-half away third.
“I felt he would go well as he worked strongly on Thursday and was ready to run a good race,” Robinson said. “It was a good effort from him as he got to the line well.”
Rating 1:59 over 1660 metres, Livinontheedge provided Robinson with the opening leg of a double.
Gaining a ‘catch’ drive behind Major Carlisle for trainer George Smith, Robinson positioned the gelding in the breeze before completing a strong win from Takemepitchamister and Ayejayem in 1:59.1 over 1660 metres.
“George said if I get to the death just stay there as he’ll keep going,” Robinson said. “He was confident he’d run a big race from there.”
