FIRST-season sires will be in the spotlight at this year’s Bathurst Gold Crown Yearling Sale to be held at the Gold Crown Paceway on Sunday, March 24.
Former North American champion Captaintreacherous is the most famous name to appear in the list of new sires, with two yearlings to be offered on the day.
Lot 68 is a bay filly, a half-sister to four winners including the Tasmanian Oaks winner Nickle Miss, nominated by Brian and Marilyn Gourley, River Murray Bloodstock, Cobram (Vic.).
The second, Lot 117, is offered by Victoria’s Equine Reproduction Services – a bay colt out of the Artiscape mare Light In Every Day (1:53.2), a SA Ladyship winner and Breeders Crown placegetter.
Another ‘new boy’ expected to make a big impact on the Australian stud scene is the USA 2YO Colt of the Year Artspeak, standing at Empire Stallions (Vic.).
At the recent APG sale in Melbourne, seven Artspeak yearlings were sold to a top price of $25,000.
His seven representatives in the Bathurst sale include a half-brother to Replaced Eye (1:52.5), a half-sister to Architecture (1:58.5), a half-sister to Soho Aphrodite (1:59.8) and five others in 2:00, a colt out of a daughter of Bathurst Gold Tiara winner The Kindly One and a filly out of a half-sister to the cup class pacer I Am Sam.
Also on the first-season list is the Canadian champion Warrawee Needy, who has a single representative at the sale – Lot 97, a half-brother to the multiple Menangle winner Imthevillagestar (1:51.9).
