4Generous harness racing benefactor Kevin Seymour is looking forward to the weekend.

The Brisbane based businessman will have his smart rookie filly Get In The Groove start in a semi-final of the Australasian Breeders Crown at Ballarat on Saturday night before hosting an open day at his Egmont Park Stud on Sunday.

And he believes it will be a good weekend.

“I’m more than happy to have this filly in Melbourne chasing the Breeders Crown while I’m really excited about the open day at the Stud on Sunday, it will be great opportunity for everybody to catch up in a relaxed atmosphere and take a look at the stallions, Mr Feelgood and Hurrikane Kingcole. Breeding season is an exciting time.” Seymour stated.

Get In The Groove flew south on Monday night with fellow Queensland pacer Catcha Lefty and has settled in well at her new surroundings, based at Melton with Clinton Welsh.

The Mach Three – Get Happy filly has drawn gate six in the first semi-final for two-year-old girls and looks suited by the 2200m, a distance she is yet to race over.

Prepared by leading Queensland horseman Grant Dixon, Get In The Groove looked good winning a recent trial at Albion Park when she outsprinted Catcha Lefty in the 2138m workout.

“We think she’s a pretty smart filly; we sent Feel The faith down last year and she won the consolation but this filly is better than her, she’s quicker and stronger so the distance is really going to suit her.

“It was very unfortunate what happened last start in the QBRED Triad Final when she was contacted by Heavens Trend but thankfully no harm was taken and her trials have been impressive since then. Grant was very pleased with her efforts in the trials and her work since has been impressive.

“She’s handled the trip down in good fashion and settled in well, Grant heads down on Thursday and hopefully we get a trouble free run and qualify for the final. The draw is a little tricky, I never seem to draw a decent gate when I have a horse start interstate but hopefully we can get a good one for the final.”

Seymour is thrilled with the early reaction from breeders for his stallions with breeding season just around the corner.

World champion Mr Feelgood is now becoming a world class sire while Hurrikane Kingcole will provide plenty of speed to his progeny.

The son of super sire Cams Card Shark is a winner in 1;47.6 – twice.

“The early indications are very pleasing; I wanted a stallion to compliment Mr Feelgood who continues to do tremendous things and now Hurrikane Kincgole provides a perfect balance to the roster. He was a wickedly fast horse and his pedigree is very appealing.

“Having a sire like this will certainly add speed to the breed, he was a feature race winner at two and he continued to show that dazzling speed as an older horse. He paced a faster time in the consolation of the Meadowlands Pace than what the winner recorded in the final.”

The open day starts from 10am and all are welcome to attend.
