The harness racing road train continues this week with trainers travelling the D’Aguilar Highway for a dual code harness and thoroughbred grass track race meeting at the Kilcoy Turf Club on Sunday.
Fresh from a big week at the Royal Queensland Show, the standardbreds will race over the metric mile on the grass track with three TAB harness races followed by full card of TAB thoroughbred races. Nominations for the harness races close on Wednesday at 10.00am.
The Kilcoy Turf Club has successfully conducted harness racing a number of times at their picturesque venue in the Somerset region of South East Queensland, 94kms from Brisbane.
Club president Con Searle is a self-confessed fan of the trots said he is really looking forward to having them race again at Kilcoy on Sunday.
“I love having the trots here and so do our punters, it adds something different to our race day and this week we have the bonus of the mini trotters racing as well,” Searle said.
The harness racing starts with the first TAB race at 11.41am, the second race at 12.06pm and the third race at 12.42pm. Queensland Junior Harness Racing Association Mini Trotters will race between the thoroughbred races.
Grass track racing continues next month with harness trainers venturing to the Darling Downs on Sunday 6 September for a full TAB harness race meeting at the Warwick Turf Club. The harness race meeting will feature the Garrard’s Warwick Cup. Then on Sunday 13 September harness racing will be conducted at the dual code Deagon Picnic race day.
