Classy mare Maczaffair, veteran fast-class performer Vultan Tin and promising four-year-old Golden State have all been labelled good things at Gloucester Park tomorrow night by members of the WA Trotting Media Guild.
Past winner of the Guild’s tipping competition Stuart Lowe and longshot guru Pat Harding have made Maczaffair their best bet on the 10-event card.
“My best bet is the classy mare Maczaffair, who ran a great third in last week’s free for all,” Lowe said. “She drops back into restricted company and is much better drawn here. Hard to beat.”
And Harding agrees.
“Maczaffair won four starts ago but has had some pretty ordinary draws since then,” Harding said. “I expect Mark Reed to bounce her to the front and lead all the way.”
Budding racecaller Hayden King and The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft are keen on Vultan Tin.
“Vultan TIn is drawn to lead throughout and be victorious,” King said. “He can make his presence felt in this cups chase.”
Havercroft is in agreement.
“Vultan Tin loves it in front and from the pole should be the pacesetter,” Havercroft said. “He runs into a few handy ones here but continues to improve with more racing.”
RWWA’s racing communications co-ordinator Tim Walker and Guild president Wayne Currall are in the Golden State camp.
“Golden State was super impressive here last week,” Walker said. “Drawn a lot better this week as well and should be able to find the front and be too good here.”
Currall couldn’t agree more.
“Mark Reed should find an easy lead from gate two with Golden State,” Currall said. “From the front he’s the one they all have to get over.”
GPTV’s Ken Casellas has urged punters to forgive Pradas Ideal Dahling’s last run.
“I firmly recommend that punters completely disregard Pradas Ideal Dahling’s dismal failure when he faded badly and finished ninth, 81 metres behind All Over Tan in Albany last Friday night, and treat it as an aberration,” Casellas said. “His form at his two previous outings was outstanding and he is my best bet when he starts from the back line in race nine on Friday night.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning has made Carrera Mach his best bet.
“Carrera Mach looks set to notch his fourth consecutive win after drawing favourably,” Manning said. “The gelding, among a strong group of pacers which Ross Olivieri trains for Melbourne owner Merv Butterworth, has made a successful transition to city racing since his first four wins were at Bunbury. He impressed when winning at the Gloucester Park New Year’s Eve meeting.”
VALUE BETS
Stuart: The value bet looks to be Vultan Tin, who a year ago ran fourth in the Interdominion Final. His recent form suggests he is back to that form and with the pole draw can lead all the way here.
Pat: My value bet comes up in Race 10 with No. 1 Anime. Chris Voak has a habit of bobbing up in the last race and with not too much exposed form in the race I am expecting a good showing from Anime.
Hayden: Always Arjay and new driver Emily Suvaljko are both in top form and well placed this Friday. Could be at a nice each-way price.
Ryan: Mon Lillies has four runs under her belt this campaign and is drawn to get an economical trip. Can run into a place.
Tim: Mitch Maguire’s fourth was a nice effort in the Village Kid last week behind My Field Marshal. There could be a bit of pressure on up front here which may play into his hands, getting the last crack at the leaders.
Wayne: Im Soxy has been in the best form of his career and could get out to an each-way quote in the second race. Forget he went around last start when he was trapped wide early in proceedings when the pace was hot.
Ken: For value, I suggest Bettor Not Bitter in race eight in which he will begin from out wide at barrier six on the 10m line. His past two efforts have been strong pointers to a win just around the corner.
Ernie: Just Bet On Black has not won in his past 12 starts, but barrier one gives him a chance to bounce back and show the form which enabled him to record victories at five successive appearances in 2017.
