IN-FORM pacer Bulletproof Boy has drawn to continue his rapid rise through the grades at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Winner of his last three starts – which followed a first-up second – Bulletproof Boy will make his open class debut in the Christmas Cup.
To trainer Scott Ewen’s joy the son of Art Official has been gifted the pole, which should see him play a prominent role in the finish.
“He just keeps climbing the ladder,” Ewen said. “He is getting better with each start and is learning what it’s all about.
“I chucked him in the Cup to see how he can handle the better ones. On what he has been doing at races and at home I believe he can at least compete with them.
“I don’t think he can’t win, it’s just hard to match up what he has done with those horses.”
Rating Emain Macha the one to beat, Ewen believes Blinding Light will also make his presence felt.
Emain Macha will begin from barrier four, with Blinding Light to come out of six.
“Blinding Light is a good horse too, but Emain Macha is the best one in it,” Ewen said. “Emain Macha is the one to beat.”
With his family due to head to Melbourne in mid January, Ewen has targeted Bulletproof Boy at an M0 at Tabcorp Park Melton on January 18.
Should the four-year-old perform to expectation, Ewen will then aim Bulletproof Boy at some of South Australia’s country cups.
“After Saturday night I will find a suitable R-race for him,” Ewen said. “Then a few weeks after that I will give him a go in an M0, which I’m pretty confident he will do well in.
“Depending how he handles Melbourne I will then have a look at the Kapunda Cup.”
