TASMANIAN stars Ricky Duggan and Todd Rattray are hoping for a change of fortune when they make the trip to South Australia on Saturday.
The pair will head across Bass Strait to represent the Apple Isle in the Australian Drivers’ Championship at Globe Derby that night.
It will be the fourth time Duggan has contested the series, with his previous appearances “forgettable”.
Finishing at the tail of the field during the inaugural edition in 2014, Duggan was then seventh the following year and second last in 2016.
Rattray made his debut in 2017, finishing second last as Victorian, Chris Alford, claimed the title.
“A change of luck would be pretty handy,” Duggan said. “Last time I was in the series only one of my drives drew the front…that signalled my luck!
“These series do quite often get decided on the luck of the draws and getting the right horses…they’re a bit of a raffle.”
Duggan is no stranger to success in such events, however, having tied with Queensland’s Grant Dixon during the 1993 Australian Young Drivers’ Championship at the Gold Coast.
“It’s an honour to represent your state and hopefully we can do the colours proud on the weekend,” Duggan said. “It’s also good to catch up with other drivers from different states and have a laugh.
“We usually have a couple after the last so I’m looking forward to that as well.”
Rattray echoed Duggan’s thoughts on gaining the right luck while predicting a Tassie quinella!
“It should be really good,” Rattray said. “Hopefully I can get a few good horses and do the colours proud.
“If Ricky and I can get the right horses and draw a quinella for Tasmania would be ideal.
“It will be the first time I have driven in South Australia so that will be an experience in itself.”
