Harness Racing enthusiasts who are planning to visit both Northam on Saturday Night and Pinjarra on Monday could find themselves an offer that may kick start the new breeding season in a very positive manner.
Well respected trainers and breakers have been taken by the way both Young Guns based at Allwood Stud, Fly Like An Eagle and Follow The Stars first crop of youngsters have broken in. Both stallions look to be headed for very exciting futures.
Many people are of the view the sport is crying out for young colonial stallions to stand up and drive the direction of breeding in this country. Early indications are that Allwood could have landed two extremely promising options.
Fly Like An Eagle was an undeniably young star of the track. He was NZ 2yo of the year and is a four time Group One winner and defeated the best pacers of his time including Christen Me, Smolda, Sushi Sushi, and Sir Lincoln.
He held the New Zealand record as the fastest two year old over 1700 metres with a mile rate of 1:55.9
Follow The Stars, the 2014 Australian and New Zealand 2YO of the Year and rated one of the best youngsters ever produced in this country, is lining up for his fourth season at Allwood Stud.
Follow The Stars won 10 of his 11 starts as a two-year-old and $455,409, a scrimmage putting him out of the race at his other appearance in the Harness Jewels at Cambridge.
He won in a career-best 1:53.8 at his second start in the Group 3 NZ Sapling Stakes in February and maintained his brilliance right to the end of a long freshman campaign, capturing the Group 1 $297,000 Breeders Crown Final at Melton at his final start, ripping home in 55.7 after being required to work overtime from an awkward barrier draw.
The team at Allwood will be parading Fly Like An Eagle and Follow the Stars yearlings, Sister Madonna colt and She Likes Gold filly, both typical of the stallion, beautiful natured and well conformed horses.
Any breeder that makes the effort to talk to the friendly staff of Allwood Stud will be rewarded with a special offer in the coming season to both these outstanding prospects.
For breeders that can’t make it to these two meetings please call Michael Hotham on 0421 331 586
