APG glory shapes as perfect tonic

FOR a harness racing enthusiast there is no better tonic than winning a Group One.

In need of some good fortune, Western Australian owner Harry Capararo is hoping that “pick me up” comes in the shape of a Ladbrokes Australian Pacing Gold Final victory at Melton tomorrow night.

Capararo owns promising freshman Babyface Adda, which booked his position in the $350,000 decider by securing his heat at Pinjarra on April 2.

Battling illness, Capararo will be unable to make the trip across the Nullarbor, but will be “glued to his television” according to trainer Ross Olivieri.

“Harry is not well and this horse is giving him a bit of joy and lift in his spirits,” Olivieri said. “His win in an APG heat certainly put a smile on Harry’s face, but if he can capture the Final, it will be a huge pick me up.

“Harry can’t come over to watch him race, but will be glued to his television cheering him on.

“Hopefully we get the luck required on the night and can deliver Harry plenty of reasons to smile.”

Sending the two-year-old to Melbourne last Monday, Olivieri reports Babyface Adda has settled in perfectly and is in top condition for the task ahead.

While the son of Rich And Spoilt is in peak shape, Olivieri is concerned about one ailment affecting Babyface Adda.

“He is at the top of his game, I couldn’t be happier with his condition,” Olivieri said. “He’s a nice horse…I wouldn’t have brought him over if he wasn’t.

“His last two runs in Perth have been great even with ‘bad-drawitis’, which has also hampered him again in the Final.

“Barrier six makes it tough, but hopefully he can get some luck in the run.”
