Hot Dog eating contests are hugely popular in the USA, with the current champion having put away 72 Hot Dogs in 10 minutes last year. We wanted to bring some of the fun to you by holding our very own!
We have two divisions to enter – Professional & Amateur:
- • Enter the amateur league if you’ve never tried anything like this before, and want to have a go, have a laugh and see how you match up against a panel of professional eaters without directly competing.
- • OR if you’re already a bit of an expert in competitive eating, go head to head with our professional contestants including NZ’s own Nela Zisser!
Cash Prizes up for grabs:
- • Be in to win $300.00 cash for 1st place in our Amateur League, or $100.00 in vouchers for 2nd place!

Invercargill – Saturday 21 April
A ten race programme at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill this Saturday will precede the pinnacle of the Southern Harness Racing season eight days later – Diamonds Day.
This Saturday the action starts at 12.10pm with the final race due to commence at 5.10pm. A free bag of lollies for all the children on course will be handed out after Race 6 while a Level One Restaurant & Bar voucher to the value of $50 will be won by lucky draw from all losing tote tickets after Race 6.
Diamonds Day, scheduled for Sunday 29 April, is the culmination of several of the major harness race series in the south with feature events including the finals of the Macca Lodge/Nevele R Stud Southland Oaks and the Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes, both races run over 2700m for a stake of $45,000. The bMAC Sheetmetal Southern Country Cups Handicap Pace also over 2700m for a stake of $25,000 is another feature as is the Group 3 Diamond Creek Farm 2yo Classic raced for a stake of $45,000 over 2200m.
Eleven high quality harness races are programmed for Diamonds Day with the first scheduled for 11.30am. Admission to the course both this Saturday and on Diamonds Day is free.
Other dates for the Invercargill Harness Racing Club before the season ends include Saturday 5 May, 26 May and 9 June as well as Queens Birthday Monday 4 June. Winton and Gore also host meetings in May.
Rangiora – Sunday 22 April
Rangiora Classic day featuring a ten race card, with the first race at 12.05pm. Entry is free.
Southern Harness Diamonds Day – 29 April
Diamonds Day 2018 is fast approaching – Sunday April 29th at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill. This is Southern Harness’s biggest race day with combined stakes of $216,000. There are two Group Two races and one Group Three race.
Crayfish, Oysters and Blue Cod will be served in the Catch of the Day Cafe for winning connections.
Key races are:
- Nevele R/Macca Lodge Southland Oaks Final worth $45,000 (Group Two) won last season by Bonnie Joan.
- Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes worth $45,000 (Group Two) won last year by Eamon Maguire.
- Diamond Creek Farm Two Year Old Classic worth $45,000 (Group Three) previous three winners have been Lazarus, Mongolian Hero and Aloka.
- bMAC Sheetmetal Limited Diamonds Day Handicap worth $25,000 – This is a double points round for the Southern Country Cups Series.
- $12,000 Gold Chip Final for trotters
