NZ SIRES STAKES BOARD
The New Zealand Sires Stakes Board is pleased to offer lucrative racing opportunities throughout May and June.
This year will see the second running of the PGG Wrightson’s Uncut Gems, this time to be held at the Auckland Trotting Club on Friday 15 June.
This will follow the running of the 2018 Harness Jewels at Cambridge Raceway on Saturday 2 June, presenting further earning opportunities to those horses nominated for Sires Stakes, Nevele R Fillies Series or NZ Yearling Sales Series. A full list of series and conditions can be found on the NZ Sires Stakes Board website.
The Four-Year-Old and Older Pacing Mares and Pacing Entires and Geldings events will be accompanied by a Four-Year-Old and Older Trotters Uncut Gems race, all to be held on Friday 15 June.
To be eligible to race in the PGG Wrightson sponsored Uncut Gems your horse must have been previously nominated for the relevant Stakes Series, have not previously won a Group One or race with a stake of $100,000 or above (Pacers) or $55,000 or above (Trotters), and not have placed first, second or third in the 2018 Harness Jewels.
As an added incentive this year there is an introduction of a $5,000 bonus from PGG Wrightson to be paid to the first eligible Sales horse, which has paid both the Vendor and Purchaser payments, over the line in the Uncut Gem events. This bonus will be paid directly to the owner by the Board.
During May Addington Raceway will host two Classic events also in the Haras des Trotteurs Sires Stakes Aged Trotters Classic (11 May) and the Garrard’s Sires Stakes Sophomore Classic for Three-Year-Old Pacing Colts and Geldings (18 May).
The Trotter’s Classic requires contenders to have been nominated for a New Zealand Sires Stakes Series or PGG Wrightson NZ Yearling Sales Level T. They must also have not previously won a Group One or a race with a stake of $55,000 or more. This event will be a 2600m special handicap trot.
The Sophomore Classic will be held as a 1950m mobile and is for those horses nominated for the New Zealand Sires Stakes No 34 series or PGG Wrightson New Zealand Yearling Sales Series 26 Level T. Any horse who has won a Group One or a race with a stake of $100,000 or more will not be eligible for this race.
In some instances a Late Entry can be submitted for these races.
