HRNZ MARKETING
Harness Racing Bookmaker, Richard Wilson, provides HRNZ weekly with his bookmaker report. Last week saw a rain interrupted week with Waikouaiti day one postponed from Thursday to Saturday & day two on Monday on a heavy track.
Thursday – Cambridge
Punters off to a good start to the week, especially in R1 where Franco Caliph was well backed @ $2.50-$2.40. Not many large bets on the night but there was solid support for two horses in R3. Ruebe Star @ $2.10-$2.70 blew out to $3.20 on the tote as Christanna was well backed from $1.85-$1.65 & closed $1.40 on the tote. Bar Room Brawler has good support as well @ $2.80 in R5.
Friday – Addington
The large punters appeared at Addington & Auckland. A late $10,000 on Tehoro Dazzle @ $7 in R1 tipped that book on its head & put us on the back foot. $10,000 Court On The Edge @ $1.80 was better for us though. Other big bets on Court On The Edge were $2,300 @ $1.85 & $2,600 @ $1.75. Son Of A Tiger bounced back from disappointing on debut to score well in R8 & carried an army of supporters through. $1,800 @ $2.10, $4,200, $2,500 & $2,200 all @ $1.95 got paid there. A couple of other winners were strongly backed without any huge bets. Jazzy Star was $4.50 into $3.20 equal fav in R9 & Cindy Bromac was $1.80 into $1.65 in the last.
Friday – Auckland
Punters on the back foot early at Alex Pk with Master Moonlite going down in R2. $10,000 @ $1.70 the largest of a heap of bets on him. $15,000 on Show Of Faith in R3 didn’t fair any better but punters soon found their stride with Magnifique $3.90 into $3.60, Amanda’s Spur $10.50-$9.50, and CK Spur was solid @ $2.50.
Saturday – Waikouaiti
Three massive bets on Saturday, the first was $20,000 on McCawsome @ $2.30. The other two were $20,000 Sundons Flyer @ $5.50 & $16,500 Augusta @ $3.50. A few long-priced winners on the programme were generally good for us.
Sunday – Ashburton
Punters out in force for a big day at Ashburton with two Group 3 races. Smokin By was strongly backed early on from $8.50 into $4.80 with a late $8,000 on him @ $5 the best bet of the day. $8,600 on War Dan Delight wasn’t far behind with that bet also coming on late after the main push in betting was for Heisenberg. Somejoy was another to have an army of supporters. Notable bets on her were $8,000 @ $1.90, $2,800 @ both $1.70 & $1.65 & $3,500 @ $1.65. The big bets that missed were $15,000 Governor’s Bay @ $2.40, $10,000 Ruthless Kayla @ $6.50, $10,000 Renezmae @ $5 and $10,000 Bringitonhome @ $2.20.
Monday – Waikouaiti
Plenty of large bets throughout the day on Monday. $10,000 on Franco June @ $5.50 got home early on but there were a few misses too. $9,000 Highland Reign @ $2.60, $10,000 Wait For Success @ $4.20, $10,000 Dying To See You @ $4.40, $7,000 Lis Amore @ $7.50, $10,000 Holdon Toyaspurs @ $7, $10,000 Jacks N Jazz @ $2.40, $5,000 Sundons Flyer @ $3.70 & $7,000 @ $3.50, $10,000 Tiziano @ $7.
