It is with great pleasure and pride that HRSA and the Gawler Harness Racing Club announce that after an absence of 10 years, a harness racing meeting will be conducted at the Gawler complex on Sunday March 4th.
The one-off event will be named “The Gawler Harness Heritage & Family Race Day” with the theme honouring those pioneers that made the Gawler Trotting Club one of Australia’s leading clubs and acknowledging the present committee and volunteers that have worked tirelessly to relocate their track after its former grounds were compulsory acquired by the SA government for the northern expressway.
The meeting, which will start around 3 pm, will see a maximum of 7 races conducted on the spacious 960 metre circuit.
The day is all about families, with the youngsters being catered for with face painting, balloon artists, pat the pony and the very popular Pony Trots will race.
A host of food stalls will ensure that everyone doesn’t go hungry on this momentous occasion.
The Gawler Club have worked tirelessly for many years to achieve this milestone day and I’m sure that there will be many smiling faces amongst the committee when the first official race field face the starter.
Gawler President Peter Bain has acknowledged the support he has received from all sectors of the harness racing industry, but especially from HRSA who have supported him and his Committee in the quest to race again at Gawler.
Both the Gawler Club and HRSA are strongly indebted to Tony Piccolo, Member for Light, for his unwavering support throughout this long journey and his efforts in assisting to obtain the approval for this one-off event, “The Gawler Harness Heritage & Family Day”.
