Co-trainer Josh Dickie admits to being disappointed with star trotter Speeding Spur after his Great Southern Star failure on Saturday night, but says the horse is in a good place physically.
“After the race I was a little bit worried something was wrong, but he’s fine.
“He’s had a good few days off and there is no soreness in his legs.
“He was always going to come home next week anyway, but well miss the Dullard Cup this week and give him a week off.
“Then he can be ready for the Rowe Cup in April.”
Speeding Spur drew the outside of the second line in the A$300,000 feature and settled rearward but could not make any serious ground over the last lap, finishing mid-pack.
“It was a disappointing run, to be fair,” said Dickie.
“But it was always going to be hard for him coming back from a couple of severe leg injuries.”
