I left his office with a much better and far more positive view on where the sport is headed in QLD. I now understand why people are looking at moving horses to the north.

Mr Ross Barnett, APM, was appointed as Queensland’s first Racing Integrity Commissioner on 1 May 2016 for a period of three years.
He is a former Deputy Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service who worked for nearly 40 years’ as one of the State’s most distinguished officers.
The Commissioner has experience working in major crime and drug squads and has served in a number of senior investigative roles at the National Crime Authority, the Australian Crime Commission and the Queensland Crime Commission.
He has served as Deputy Commissioner for Specialist Operations and was the Police Commander for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2014.
As Deputy Commissioner, Mr Barnett lead the implementation of a major organisational restructure in 2013 which significantly reduced the number of QPS Regions and Districts and eliminated 116 Commissioned Officer positions through a voluntary redundancy program.
He holds a Degree in Justice Administration, a Masters in Public Policy & Administration, and a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership. He is also a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Program and has completed the National Academy and National Executive Institute programs run by the FBI in the United States.
Mr Barnett has received two QPS Commissioner’s Commendations and was awarded the National Crime Authority’s highest individual honour – the Geoffrey Bowen Memorial Award – in 1997. He received an Australian Police Medal in the 2007 Australia Day Honours list and received the Commissioner’s Award for Meritorious Service in 2012.
