Michael House isn’t expecting to be holding on to his two latest metro winners, Johnny Mac and Voodoo Prince, for much longer.
Both were impressive maiden winners at Addington during the course of the double-header meeting over the weekend and both are now under offer to Perth.
“You never want to sell horses like those two, but at the end of the day from a business perspective it’s the best option to make.”
The pair were both entrants in the Ready To Run Sale that House ran last year, but neither was sold and House retained them and was joined in the ownership by Cavalla Bloodstock’s Robert Famularo and long-time stable client, Neil Rich.
Johnny Mac put behind him a horror debut performance to win impressively on Thursday night in the hands of Ricky May.
The son of super mare Carabella, and recently-departed sire Mach Three, made a mid-race move and held his rivals easily in the run to the line.
Voodoo Prince was handled by Jonny Cox on Saturday night, a son of PK Bunny and he too doesn’t lack for breeding.
But both are on borrowed time in the stable now and House and his fellow connections are waiting for deals to be finalised.
The double took House to 12 wins for the season and he’s a long way from being finished – the 30 wins he picked up last season is firmly in his sights.
The Manawatu experiment that he’d undertaken this season is continuing to prove fruitful and the ability for horses to move up and down in grade under the rating system is helping the cause.
“In my opinion it’s the best thing that’s happened to the industry and it certainly has helped my team.
“They’re all the sort of horses who can rise and drop in grade and remain competitive.”
House was on his way up to the Central Districts on Sunday morning with a big team for racing this week.
“I’m incredibly lucky, I’ve got a great team of staff who I can leave at home and know that everything is going to be taken care of.
“I really can’t say enough about them all, they’re a huge part of it.”
House is on the lookout for more horses to take up North on his expeditions too and hopes that more and more owners and trainers seen the benefit and potential in the trip.
