Light nominations

Only three open-class pacers – Seel The Deal, Heaven Rocks and Have Faith In Me – have been nominated for the $50,000 Canterbury Classic (2600m stand) at Addington on Friday night. Nominations have been left open until Tuesday morning, with officials confirming it needs at least six starters to be held. It is likely that some horses will transfer from the R60 and faster pace, which has 10 nominations. The $30,000 Canterbury Park Trotting Cup has attracted 14 nominations, including Wilma’s Mate, Everybody Knows and Prince Fearless.

Key 3YO clash

Australian Breeders Crown 2YO winner King Of Swing has drawn one in the $22,000 Sires Stakes 3YO male heat (1700m mobile) at Cambridge on Thursday night, where he takes on speed machine Alta Maestro, who has drawn three in the quality six-horse field.

Alta Maestro, described by experienced trainer Robert Dunn as ‘’as good as any horse I’ve ever trained’’,  resumed with a strong win on Friday night at Alexandra Park, cutting out the 2200m in 2:42, the last 800m in 57.2sec.

King Of Swing, who has not raced since August 27, warmed up with a sedate 2050m mobile workout win at Pukekohe on Saturday over stablemate Spring Campaign, sprinting  his last 800m in 57.7.
