The stars of the trots season and long-serving stalwarts will again be lauded at Melbourne’s awards mecca, the Palladium at Crown.
The 2017 Gordon Rothacker Medal will be showcased at Southbank after an exceptional staging last year, an opportunity to celebrate the state’s leading trainers, drivers and horses from season 2016-17.
Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) CEO David Martin said the celebration on Sunday, October 22, would be a chance for the industry to kick up its heels.
“This is a great night where the industry can come together to celebrate our many talented participants outstanding achievements,” Mr Martin said.
“Through the Gordon Rothacker Medal, Pearl Kelly Award and other distinguished service medals it’s also a chance to recognise those who have given so much to better the industry.”
That will include the announcement of the 16th Gordon Rothacker Medal, who will join a who’s who of trots champions including recent winners Carl O’Dwyer, Bruce Morgan, Kerryn Manning and Graeme Lang.
In addition to the season’s leading trainers, owners and drivers, the night also bestows the popular Victorian horse of the year and country clubs awards, including the renowned Victorian Country Club of the Year honour.
“We look forward to trots lovers embracing the night and celebrating those who have excelled. It’s also a chance to have some fun and wine and dine at a fantastic venue,” Mr Martin said.
