Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) and the Victorian Harness Racing Trainers & Drivers Association (VTDA) were saddened to hear of the passing of John Tortona last Friday morning after a short illness.
John, trained and drove winners at the Showgrounds, Moonee Valley and Melton with horses such as Aka Adios, Gin Rummy, Moon Fella, Stevan, Lovely Lucinda, Atom Rain carrying the colours of red, black and white striped sleeves. Those were also carried in the Thoroughbred code by the legendary Geoff Murphy.
It was fitting that John’s latest racehorse, Art Keeper, in the care of Lance Justice, won first-up at Shepparton from a short break last Saturday night.
John was a VTDA committeeman for over 20 years and helped run the barbeque at the Melton trials for the past five years.
HRV and the VTDA extend their condolences to Johns family and friends.
John’s funeral will be held Thursday 31st of August at St Monica’s Church 820 Mt Alexander Rd Moonee Ponds from 11am. Following the service the cortege will proceed to Keilor Cemetery.
