Saturday night’s Cranbourne trots meeting will go ahead as planned despite the club having to abandon last night’s meeting after two races due to a backup generator breakdown.

Following a major electrical fire at the venue last month the Cranbourne club worked diligently to ensure a new switchboard was built and running for last night’s meeting.

However, a problem with the generator after Race 2 prevented the emergency lighting system from working at the track, which would have created a serious safety issue if power had been lost for any reason to the main lighting system during the night.

As a result, in the interests of safety it was decided to abandon the remainder of the meeting.

“This was an unlucky situation in that the club has worked very hard and effectively to be in a position to get last night’s meeting up and running following last month’s fire only for a new problem to come up with backup generator,” Cranbourne Racing Manager Cameron Gallagher said.

“We are in the process of fixing that backup generator and I expect Saturday’s meeting will absolutely go ahead all going well.”

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) will liaise with Cranbourne and advise the industry via direct messaging tomorrow, but reiterates only an unforeseen issue arising between now and Saturday would put the meeting in any doubt.
