FORMER promising youngster Rowan Rosie is ready to make up for lost time.
Triumphant at Globe Derby yesterday, Rowan Rosie was having her 12th start from a 30-month break.
Victorious as a three and early four-year-old, Rowan Rosie was sidelined after suffering a career-threatening injury.
The Peter Borrelli-trained pacer fractured her off-side knee, with the astute horseman electing to breed from the mare.
“After she did her knee, which needed to have screws inserted, so I decided to put her in foal and now have a yearling colt by Western Terror,” Borrelli said.
“I didn’t want to breed from her again straight away, so I put her back in work to see how she’d go.
“She has done a great job to come back to the races after such a long time off and had been knocking on the door for a win.”
With Borrelli holding the reins, Rowan Rosie accounted for Windburnt and Art Of Gold in 1:58.6 over 1800 metres.
“I’m very pleased with her run,” Borrelli said. “She is no star, but can definitely win a few more before she is done.”
