Top South Australian trainer-driver Ryan Hryhorec has had a memorable May.
Hryhorec drove 28 winners and trained 15 in South Australia as well as two in Victoria.
“It has been crazy good,” Hryhorec said.
“I don’t keen daily records so I wasn’t sure of the numbers, I just knew it had been pretty good.
“Everything has fallen into place with my driving while from a training viewpoint I’m really happy with the setup at my new property at Two Wells.”
Formerly based at Geoffrey Webster’s property at Angle Vale, Hryhorec moved to his own property outside Two Wells in March.
“It has taken a while to work out what is best for the horses as I now have an uphill incline on my training track. Each horse is different so it has been trial and error but I’m now happy with the way the training operation is working.”
On Saturday night at Globe Derby Park, Hryhorec drove three winners – Majestic Lustre, Aldebaran Ten and Miasblaze, the latter pair he also trains.
It was the fourth time in the month he had driven a treble, and there was also a four on May 19.
Majestic Lustre, trained by Aaron Brown, was a $2.10 favourite in the Lion Pty Ltd Claiming Pace (2230m) and stayed on strongly to score by 1-1/2 metres from Sir Julian ($17.30) with Teramby Star ($3.50), four metres away third.
Brown said it had been Majestic Lustre’s 19th win since coming into his stable.
“It is disappointing I have had to put him in claimers but if I didn’t he would be sitting home in the stable,” Brown said. “I wish I had a stable full of horses like him.”
Aldebaran Ten ($1.20 favourite) stepped up in class in the D P R Insurance Brokers Trotters Discretionary (2230m) to score a 1-1/2 metre win from Rejuvenation ($6.80) with Our Solar Flare ($15.20), two metres away third.
“He’s come a long way in a short time,” Hryhorec said.
“He’s taking the place of Im Princess Sophie which we had to retire through injury. I’m glad to say Duncan McPherson purchased her as a broodmare and I’m looking to see her foals.
“Aldebaran Ten has quickly raced his way into the better company but he keeps improving and I’m keen to see how far he can go.”
Hryhorec’s treble came up when Miasblaze ($1.60 fav) sprinted home strongly to win the Schweppes Australia Pace (1800m) by 1-1/2 metres from Classic Chaos ($19.90) with Smooth Delight ($10.30), five metres away third.
Miasblaze has now won both her starts since coming into Hryhorec’s stable earlier this year.
“Everyone knows she is a smart mare, my job has been to try and get her to race more tractably,” Hryhorec said.
“She did it wrong at her first win galloping early but tonight I was bit happier the way she settled back in the field. She is still a work in progress.”
