Queensland’s Amy Rees has got off to a flying start to take the top spot on the leader board in the interstate Young Drivers Challenge being held in Victoria this week.
The five race challenge series features drivers from all states of Australia with the first two races held in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley last night.
Rees steered home a winner and a third placing in the two competition races at the Shepparton track.
The three track competition continues today at Maryborough and tonight at Ballarat.
Rees opened up the competition with a victory aboard four-year-old mare The Stags Roar, a $5.30 chance. Rees kept the mare back on the pegs and used the sprint lane to power home Sir Briggen (Haydon Gray VIC) and Hurricane Stride (Todd McCarthy NSW).
In the second challenge race Rees drove an outsider Destiny Warrior and came from well back in the running line to take third place behind short priced favourite Karkarooc (Jason Lee (VIC) and Dehillman (Josh Aiken (VIC).
This afternoon at Maryborough Rees drives Coast Warning and Grins Rendition in the Challenge races with the final race in the Challenge at Ballarat tonight where Rees is partnering the in-form Franco Jaoquin.
