Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) today announced that as part of its overall Group restructuring and cost base review, the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Tabcorp Park Melton has been discontinued. Accordingly, Shane Gloury who has held the position of CEO at Tabcorp Park Melton since May 2013 will leave the HRV Group effective on 31 May 2017.

The HRV Board wishes to pay tribute to Gloury who has led the Tabcorp Park team to turn around the finances of this important industry asset, which now delivers strong revenue streams and profitability for the benefit of industry participants.

During Gloury’s time at Tabcorp Park Melton his achievements included:

  • Significant revenue growth and improvement in the underlying profitability of  Tabcorp Park Melton and the overall return to HRV from the venue.
  • Enhancement of the quality of food, beverage and hospitality service provided by the Tabcorp Park Melton team.
  • Introduction of the successful New Year’s Eve race meeting at Melton and other successful themed race meetings at the venue, which have significantly increased race night dining bookings, grown attendances at Melton and introduced many new people to harness racing.
  • Growth and expansion of functions and events at Tabcorp Park Melton including introduction of the City of Melton Business Awards, City of Melton Mayoral Ball, Debutante Balls, Live at The Bar conducted in the Sports Bar, Sunday Markets and Dancesport Competitions.
  • Creation of the popular “In Harness Experience” (Double Seater Sulky Race Experience) into Victoria in 2014.

Gloury commenced with HRV in the Finance Team in December 1997 and quickly rose to become the GM Finance & Administration and subsequently the GM of Strategic Planning and Product Development. In 2008 he left HRV to take on the role as CEO at Addington Raceway in New Zealand. He returned to HRV in late 2011 in the role of Chief Financial Officer and then Chief Commercial Officer before being asked by the HRV Board to assume the role of CEO at Tabcorp Park Melton in May 2013.

As part of a HRV management restructure in October 2016, the HRV Board asked Gloury to take on additional duties and responsibilities for a period of time as Interim General Manager of Operations while still performing his role as CEO at Tabcorp Park Melton.

HRV Chairman Dale Monteith praised Gloury for his leadership, commitment and results achieved.  “We are grateful to Shane for his hard work, professionalism, his knowledge of harness racing, relationships he has forged and the outstanding results that he has delivered for the benefit of harness racing and Tabcorp Park.  It is a testament to Shane’s professionalism and commitment that he has agreed to continue to act as nominee at Tabcorp Park for the Gaming and Liquor Licences at the venue leading up to his departure next month. The Board wishes Shane all the very best with his future endeavours”

The HRV Board is currently reviewing the governance structure for Tabcorp Park Melton, reporting lines and the role it should play in the future. While this important process takes place Ms Gayle Harvey will continue to be responsible for the venue in the position of Acting General Manager – Tabcorp Park Melton, a position Harvey has held for the last six months.
