WITH an influx of new horses into his stable Queensland horseman Shane Sanderson is happy to call Sydney home for a little longer.
Formerly based in Gatton in Queensland’s Lockyer Valley, Sanderson has centred his training operation at the Menangle Park Training Centre for the past 14 months and has returned good results.
The 38-year-old mentor this season has already surpassed the amount of winners he had trained in the previous three seasons, respectively.
And the horse that has most recently added to Sanderson’s wins this season was Queensland trotter Our Overanova that won at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.
Having campaigned in Sydney since February, it was the trotter’s first win this preparation and also his first start with Sanderson.
“He was lucky enough to get a win and he deserved it to as he has been racing well,” Sanderson said of Our Overanova.
“He’s heading to Melbourne this week for the Australasian Trotting Championship.”
Another new horses that will carry Sanderson’s red colours with white stars is Jackka Lonny in Tuesday’s Claiming Pace (1609m) at Menangle.
The gelding has recently been racing in South Australia.
“We’ve had him for about two-and-a-half weeks and he seems to be settling in well,” Sanderson said.
“He is a nice horse to have around but we will know more of his ability after this run.
“My wife and I claimed this horse for ourselves just to try and build up a few of our own horses.
“It’s all about the numbers and we’re starting to get a few more horses now which is good.”
Another horse set to have her first start for Sanderson this Saturday night is the promising New Zealand filly Lady Chatto.
Formerly raced by Kiwi horseman Tim Butt, Lady Chatto has been nominated for the Group 3 Pink Bonnet Stakes.
“Tim left the filly horses just for this run and then she will most likely head back to New Zealand,” Sanderson said.
“She goes very well and struck a good one in My Sweetchilliphilly in the Gold Tiara the other week who is just the next level but this filly is just as good as the other ones.”
These new horses have just added to Sanderson’s big season so far.
Sanderson achieved the milestone of training 400 winners earlier in the year and is currently sitting on 411 wins to date.
This season alone, Sanderson has trained 24 winners and 33 placegetters.
