FIGHTING a battle she would lose on this day in 2010, Lynn McPherson split her time between treatment for her symptoms and helping others with their worries.
McPherson’s struggle stemmed from her bout with ovarian cancer, with her dreaded condition acting as a double-edged sword.
Yes the cancer gradually claimed McPherson’s life, but it also awoke her awareness of the dire need for better support, technology and early detection.
As such, McPherson began fundraising as a way of increasing research and nurses to support those facing the same adversity.
Seven years after McPherson’s death, her light has never shone brighter thanks to the Teal Pants Campaign, which stems from her original charity work to raise valuable funds and crucial awareness for the Women’s Cancer Foundation – Ovarian Institute.
So it’s certainly fitting the nation’s reinswomen are celebrating another milestone as part of Team Teal.
On the anniversary of McPheron’s passing, Harness Racing Australia has released the latest figures, which shows the industry’s leading ladies have registered more than 250 wins since this year’s fundraiser began on February 1.
New South Wales horserwoman Stephanie Lippiatt brought up the 250 as part of her double at Menangle yesterday – a milestone she declared as “very special.”
“I was just so happy to get my first double, especially with it being at Menangle, but to hear it was 250 for such a great cause is very special,” Lippiatt said.
“I was fortunate enough to get the first win in New South Wales as part of the Teal Pants this season, so to be involved at 250 is amazing.
“I’m just ecstatic to be a part of the fundraiser and passing 250 in five weeks just goes to show what can be achieved when we all work together.”
