Scintillating form by never-say-die trotter Clover Mac has plonked $1600 into the Team Teal tally, and Andy Gath’s newly acquired Kiwi could build on that with his biggest test tomorrow night.

Driven by reinswoman Kate Gath, Clover Mac has reeled off four consecutive wins since his second placing at Melton on Australian debut on January 30.

The string of success has helped build Victoria’s contribution to the Women’s Cancer Foundation fundraiser to a hearty $18,400, with Gath the leading performer with eight wins.

Every win by female drivers, who are wearing teal pants from February 1 to March 11 to raise awareness for the fight against ovarian cancer, adds $400 to the Team Teal tally courtesy of $200 from Harness Racing Victoria and the TAB.

Gath’s contribution could well become nine wins when Clover Mac contests tomorrow night’s The Aldebaran Park Knight Pistol, a Group 1 worth $50,000 that would deliver the seven-year-old’s biggest pay day.

It comes fresh off last Friday night’s win by a half-neck over Conon Bridge in the Haras Des Trotteurs Trot at Tabcorp Park Melton.

“He knows where the line is, he just wants to win and just holds them all the time,” Kate Gath said post-win.

“I thought he was off the bit around the corner, it’s always hard sitting in the death and he burnt hard early, which he’s probably not used too. I’m really happy with him tonight. Hopefully he keeps improving like he has so far.”

Victoria Team Teal Tally: $18,400

Leading female drivers (since February 1): Kate Gath 8 wins, Jodi Quinlan, Laura Crossland, Emma Hamblin 5 wins.
