7Tasmania’s nine female drivers will join their mainland counterparts raising awareness and support for Ovarian Cancer by wearing Teal coloured driving trousers for the next six weeks, concluding at the Launceston meeting March 12.

No female driver has been booked to drive at Burnie on Friday, therefore the first opportunity for the girls to get on the board will be at Launceston on Sunday.

Tasracing will donate $200 to the Ovarian Cancer Institute every time a female driver wins a race in Tasmania. A number of mainland drivers last year found gained sponsors to add to the donations with New South Wales driver Emma Turnbull gaining 74 sponsors to contribute to the cause for every winner she drove.

The teal pants promotion is the brainchild of Victorian Harness Racing Owner and Sponsor Duncan McPherson OAM, who’s wife Lyn passed away in 2010 after battling ovarian cancer.

The teal pants promotion has been conducted and promoted very well in New South Wales and Victoria in previous years, however this year is the first year it has been held across the country.

Tasmania’s female drivers who will wear the teal driving trousers include Maree Blake, Natalee Emery, Samantha Freeman, Taylor Ford, Samantha Gangell, Kristy Grant, Lyarna Graham, Lee Simmonds & Hannah Van Dongen.

If any sponsors wish to get involved they are encouraged to contact Tasracing.
