A HOST of the Southern Hemisphere’s rising stars will head to Western Australia next month for the Australasian Young Drivers’ Championship.
Hosted on a rotational basis, the series will be conducted during the Perth Inter Dominion Carnival, beginning with a heat at Gloucester Park on December 2 and finishing at the same venue a week later – TABtouch Inter Dominion Final night.
Further heats will be conducted at Bunbury, Pinjarra, Northam and Narrogin, with competitors also set to enjoy various away from racing activities.
Drivers from across Australasia will compete in the tournament, with each Australian state selecting a representative, along with four from New Zealand.
The Kiwi contingent includes defending champion Robbie Close, who will be joined by Brad Williamson, Kyle Marshall and Matt Anderson.
Jason Lee will ‘don’ the Big V, with Todd McCarthy set to do New South Wales proud as is South Australia’s Jayson Finnis, Wade Rattray from Tasmania and Queensland’s Nathan Dawson.
Local reinsman Stuart McDonald is hoping home ground advantage can help him repel the raiders and bring the trophy to the west.
McDonald enjoyed a high rate of success last season, which he has continued this term with 18 wins, placing him sixth on the state drivers’ premiership.
The winner is decided on points accumulated during the 10 heats, with the three placegetters to receive a specially-designed medal to celebrate their achievement.
