Trevor Beaton has been appointed as the Owners’ representative on the Board of Harness Racing New Zealand, effective 1 November 2016.
Trevor is the first appointment to the Board under the new process approved at the Annual Conference in July. Under this approach, nominations are sought from all owners on HRNZ’s database and applications are evaluated by a panel appointed jointly by the NZ Trotting Owners’ Association and HRNZ. Trevor was selected by the Appointments Panel comprised of Martin Cummings (NZ Trotting Owners’ Association), Ken Boddy (HRNZ appointment) and Graham Cooney (Independent).
A former school principal, Trevor has been employed recently by the Ministry of Education as a Change Manager/Commissioner. He was awarded a Queens Service Medal in 2012 for services to education.
Trevor has been involved in many aspects of the industry over an extended period. As a breeder, owner, trainer, yearling preparer, club committeeman and genuine harness racing enthusiast, Trevor has an excellent understanding of the issues facing the industry that will serve him well in this new role.
Trevor replaces Greg Crawford, who has served as the NZ Trotting Owners’ Association’s representative on the Board since 2015 and interim appointment since the Annual Conference pending this new appointment process.
