2A low key trial session will take on particular interest this Friday afternoon.

The trial session is programmed for Albion Park with classy former New Zealand types Mattgregor and Ashton K expected to roll out and flex their muscles in preparation for their next campaigns.

Mattgregor has been freshened since the recent Brisbane winter carnival campaign which ended with a 9th place finish in the Queensland Derby behind Catcha Lefty.

The Rob Roy Mattgregor gelding is prepared by Chantal Turpin and Pete McMullen and has created a strong impression since arriving on Australian soil late last year.

Mattgregor won three of his four starts and all victories came in sub 1:54 mile rates.

A setback kept him off the scene for some time before returning prior to the winter carnival where he was unplaced in both the Queensland and Gold Coast Derby classics.

Mattgregor has won 4 from 8 to date and returns as a C1 – M0 assessed pacer.

Ashton K is yet to be seen in public since arriving from New Zealand earlier this year and joining the stables of Vicki Rasmussen and Shane Graham.

The regally bred Grinfromeartoear – Shez Spicey gelding is owned by Garth Ritchie.

Ashton K has won 4 of his 6 starts in New Zealand including his latest start which came during Cup week last year at Addington when successful in the $31,360 Futurity Pace.

Interestingly, Ashton K arrives in Australia assessed as a C1 – M1 class pacer.

The talented but injury prone 5yo pacer was previously prepared by Steve Telfer and Chris Garlick for Stonewall Stud.

The trial is scheduled to take place over the distance of 1660m.
