3Standardbred life after racing takes centre stage on September 25 when Maryborough Show Society hosts a feature breed event at Carisbrook Raceway.

The day will be a standardbred spectacular, with harness trials, pony trot and novelty events to complement an extensive standardbred show ring, which kicks off at 9am.

No less than 24 classes have been scheduled for retired standardbreds, in addition to a qualifier for the prestigious Alabar HERO Series.

The winner will earn the right to contest the Alabar HERO Series Final, which carries $1000 in prizemoney to the overall champion and will be staged in conjunction with the Victorian Horse Saddle Championships in Bendigo on January 8 next year.

Maryborough’s September 25 program has been designed to cater both for experienced campaigners and those who are new to the showing environment, with foundation ridden (walk/trot) and junior handler classes included on the schedule.

Classes for ridden pairs and a monte fancy dress class are fun additions to the program.

HERO has also sponsored a Judge’s Choice Award, to be presented at the judge’s discretion from competitors on the day.

“HERO commends Maryborough Show Society and the Maryborough Harness Racing Club for their efforts in promoting standardbreds in their life outside the racetrack,” HERO manager Tanya McDermott said.

“We are 100 per cent supportive of their aim to provide an opportunity for everyone with a retired pacer or trotter to get out and have some fun while highlighting the breed’s potential for ridden and recreational purposes.”

The standardbred spectacular features as a part of a fully-catered Community Carnival Celebration, complete with trade and promotional stalls, children’s activities, showbags, an animal pavilion and a Gilbert and Sullivan Show.
