BB1 yoles 1002

Sidmouth-based Ben Yole has become the first Tasmanian harness trainer for 20 years to prepare 100 winners in a season.

Yole brought up his ton when Lake Eyre, fittingly driven by his brother Mark, won the Ian Blackburn Pace in Hobart on Sunday night.

The last Tasmanian trainer to crack the century was Barrie Rattray in the 1995-96 season.

The state record of 118 wins was set by Neville Webberley in 1990-91 is still within Yoles reach.

Yole has always looked on target to achieve the milestone but would have been relieved to get there with three meetings still to come.

Lake Eyre was Mark Yole’s 79th win for the season and maintained a 12-win lead over Ricky Duggan on the drivers’ premiership.

Ben Yole’s training business is a family operation as Mark and his brother Tim both drive for the stable, father Wayne is also involved as is Ben’s wife Catherine.

Lake Eyre was runner-up in the 2014 Tasmanian Derby before joining the Yole stable.
