After very moderate success in the breeding barn at their first season Hurrikane Kingcole and Fly Like An Eagle both returned to the racing stables to have one more shot at racetrack glory.
Both Stallions are similar in so many ways Fly Like An Eagle a son of champion sire and fast becoming the sire of sires, Mach Three from the extremely well bred Falcon Seelster mare Three Eagles ( N88 family) – served only 51 mares last season at Yirribee Stud NSW, he won just over $682k on the racetrack 18 wins 46 starts,
HurriKane Kingcole (1:47.6) is a son of Cam’s Card Shark out of Blazing Yankee-a Western ideal mare won just over $580k US, won 14 times from 49 starts, serviced only 52 mares last season at Egmont Park Qld, and both stood in the 2750 to 3000 dollars service fee range.
Both were sent to trainers with the idea of returning to racetrack before recommencing their stud duties.
However Hurrikane Kingcole has found himself back in breeding barn looking to build on his numbers from last season after not firing a shot on the training track, not so Fly Like An Eagle who is now under the care of Darren Hancock.
Fly Like An Eagle burnt over the 1609 meters at Menangle in 1.53.5 in a trail this week showing if he stands up he may well add to already impressive race record.
In the very competitive world of standing stallions both these Boys didn’t get strong books, the issue seemed once again to be if you’re not standing your stallion in Victoria you will always struggle for the number of the right mares.
One of these stallions deserved a good book and shouldn’t be going back to the track in my view.
