unnamedThe coastal town of Devonport hosts Tasmania’s first round of sires stakes racing the Grandy Smith for 4 yearold mares and the Raider Stakes for the male gender.

Jamie Cockshutt TasRacing’s form analyst looks at the chances in both $30,000 events.

The Granny Smith for the four-year-old mares which promises to be an intriguing race with plenty of chances. Ark Breeze is likely to start favourite after drawing the pole.

The Raider Stakes will also be an intriguing race. Four Ex Dan holds all the aces after drawing the pole so will get his chance to turn the tables on Jerrys Jet from last season Sires. Jerrys Jet is the class runner who draws inside the second row so it promises to be a very tactical race.

This is the other feature of the night the Raider Stakes for the four year old colts and geldings. JERRYS JET (7) has been the standout through his age group since their two year old days. He is much better suited on a bigger track which was evident of his defeat in the prelude two weeks ago. He has drawn inside the second row which may work out OK for him as he should be able to get off the pegs and find the breeze which will give him every chance of winning. FOUR EX DAN (1) gets the plum draw and was only just run down in the prelude after leading. He will top a bit easier tonight so as long as he doesn’t get too keen in the run he will take plenty of running down. FIOKI (3) won the prelude when sat behind the leader and got out late to run him down on the line. He will be very dangerous here with the right trip so has to be included. BLACKJACKHANOVER (4) is in career best form but this by far his toughest test to date so place looks best.
