The Storm Inside rocketed to stardom this season when he claimed the $322,000 Australian Passing Gold Final at Melton on Friday night.
Purchased for $54,000 by Emma Stewart at the 2015 Melbourne sale the son of Rocknroll Hanover was bred by astute breeder Helen Head. The Storm Inside is out of Artsplace mare Spirited Storm.
Mrs Head has been a leading standardbred breeder for many years in Victoria and while she has scaled down her breeding empire after her husband Graham death in 2009, she always seems to be able to breed a good young horse.
The Head’s best probably was Safari, who himself has gone on to be a success sire included in his current 2yo crop is Emain Macca who is unbeaten in four starts.
The Head’s also bred The Derby winners Lively Exit (SA) and Garnet River (Tas.), as well as Indigenous (Tas. Oaks & Vic. Gold Chalice), the Vicbred 2YO champion Our Maid Marianne, Singasongasixpence (MHRC 3YO Cup), Majestic Emperor (Tas. Sweepstakes), Gemfire (Vic. Tatlow), Vancouver Mac (Tas. Youthful and St Leger), The Godine Machine (NSW Tatlow), Shine Of Hollywood 1:52.4, Majestic Tess (Vic. Breeders Plate) and Mabo 1:57.5.
Now The Storm Inside is pride of place on Mrs Head champion’s list. His dam Spirited Storm was a winner in North America and has a weanling by super sire Somebeachsomewhere to come.
The Australian Pacing Gold Final appeared in The Storm Inside’s keeping throughout, with driver Greg Sugars taking the colt to the lead from barrier two while Weona Sizzler took the sit on his back.
But in the run to the line it was all The Storm Inside who won by 6.8 metres from Atomic Red (Rocknroll Hanover-Shoutaloud) purchased at Sydney sale for $47,000 and third palce was Weona Sizzler (Bettors Delight-Weona Badgirl) who also went through the Sydney APG sale and was purchased for $40,000.
The $50,000 APG Consolation went to Jillaby Kug Fu a $26,000 Melbourne Sales graduate by Four Stazzz Shark.
Next Saturday the fairer sex gets their chance to race for Gold at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
