Music shattered the track record when he scorched over 2200m (mobile) in 2.38.5, a 1.55.9 mile rate at Forbury Park on Thursday night.

All the more remarkable was the achievement in drizzling rain. Music took 1.3sec off the previous record set by Ballindooley in May, 2013.

It was the seventh win for Music and his third since joining the Woodend Beach stable of Robert Dunn in October. The Lis Mara – River Radio 5-year-old gelding owned by Greg Brodie had his other four wins from the stable of Bruce Negus. Music settled fifth, dashed to the front at the 700m and held on by three parts of a length, his last 800m in 57.1.

Northview Gambler, who also posted his seventh win on Thursday, is headed for Victoria after being claimed for $7500. He was claimed by agent Paul Davies.  His last five wins have been from the Christchurch stable of Brad Mowbray and included success at Addington at odds of 164 to one in October. He had his first two wins when trained by Murray Brown for breeder Cleland Murdoch. Northview Gambler has been tagged the “birthday horse” as he has won on the birth dates of his owners or close relatives. Peter Maynard, a part-owner, turned 50 on Thursday. Northview Gambler was leased from Murdoch and later bought for $3000. He amassed $40,000 in stakes.

Nui Le gave further evidence of her ability when she won in fast time on Thursday night. The 4-year-old Changeover mare had won her other start for trainer Graeme Anderson and lessee Rory McIlwrick by nine lengths on the grass at Wingatui.

She settled ninth after starting from the second line on Thursday night, improved three wide from the 1200m, led at the 800m and held on by half a length. Her time of 2.40.7 was a 1.57.5 mile rate.

Forbury Park continued as a lucky track for Ashburton owner-trainer Chris Morrison when Majestic De Fence led throughout to win a C0 trot. Morrison has won four races and three have been at Forbury Park. His previous win was with Tuscaloosa in May, 2013 and the other with That’s Random in December, 2010. His latest win was special as Majestic De Fence was driven by his son, John. Chris races Majestic De Fence with his daughter, Kerryn Morrison and partner, Shirley Crawford. They have the half-brother by Majestic Son to 2011 NZ Trotting Oaks winner, Commander Jewel, on lease from Kevin Fairbairn who bought the gelding for $10,000 at the 2012 premier yearling sale.

Its Oscar, who won five races in the Auckland area this season, is now in Perth after being sold by owners, Darryn Simpson, Denis O’Connell and Kylie Smail. Its Oscar was trained for his Auckland wins by Tony Herlihy.  The Sundon gelding had two wins when trained at Mosgiel by Simpson, who won on Thursday with the trotter, Montmorensy. The Monarchy gelding, who joined the stable two months ago had won at Waterlea in June when trained by Murray Edmonds for Kurt Ganzl, the world acclaimed writer on music.
